Phani Radhakrishnan, an associate professor, teaching stream, of organizational behaviour and human resources in the 91�Թ� Scarborough’s department of management, has received 91�Թ�’s Global Educator Award for 2024.

The annual award is given to faculty members who embody the university’s global mission and the ability to operate and communicate across cultural contexts.

Radhakrishnan was named the 2024 recipient in recognition of her partnership-driven, work-integrated learning approach spanning global classrooms.

“Professor Phani Radhakrishnan displays an ongoing practice of weaving interactional diversity and inclusivity in her pedagogy for over 20 years at the 91�Թ�,” said Alexie Tcheuyap, 91�Թ�’s associate vice-president and vice-provost, international student experience. “Phani has created global learning opportunities for students that are supported through localized and lived experiences. She has made a tremendous impact on future scholars in management and continues to make an impact on the global academic community.”

Professor Jean-Etienne de Bettignies, acting chair of the department of management, said Radhakrishnan “not only motivates students to pursue global and intercultural fluency but also equips them with essential HR and leadership skills to serve as valuable contributors within organizations and their communities.”

Radhakrishnan will be honoured at the annual Excellence in Teaching Reception in the fall.

Amy Bilton, an associate professor with the department of mechanical and industrial engineering in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering and director of the Centre for Global Engineering, has received the 91�Թ� Global Educator Award for 2023.

The award recognizes faculty members who embody 91�Թ�’s global mission and whose approach to teaching demonstrates intercultural or global fluency – the ability to successfully operate and communicate within different cultural contexts.

“Professor Bilton has provided students with innovative curricular and co-curricular opportunities that have developed their engineering skills in a global context,” says Alexie Tcheuyap, associate vice-president and vice-provost, international student experience, and chair of this year's selection committee.

“I would like to personally thank Amy for empowering 91�Թ� students with experiences to work confidently across cultures and be a positive influence in the world.”

Bilton, who will be honoured at the university’s annual Excellence in Teaching Reception in the fall, “has built an impressive range of partnerships and collaborations that stretch all the way around the world,” says Christopher Yip, dean of 91�Թ� Engineering.

“These projects are incredibly valuable for both the students and the communities they work with, and form an important part of our vibrant global network. On behalf of the Faculty, my warmest congratulations to her on this well-deserved honour.”

Ron Levi, a professor at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy and in the department of sociology in the Faculty of Arts & Science, has received the 91�Թ� Global Educator Award for 2022.

“Professor Levi’s clear commitment to pedagogies that reflect a diversity of perspectives and invite engagement from all students is impressive – and creates the conditions necessary for a truly global learning environment,” says Alexie Tcheuyap, associate vice-president and vice-provost, international student experience, and chair of this year's selection committee.

“I would like to personally thank him for his dedication to equipping 91�Թ� students with the values and cultural agility they will need to effect positive change in the world.”

Levi will be honoured at the university's annual Excellence in Teaching Reception in the fall.

Obidimma Ezezika, an assistant professor, teaching stream, at the 91�Թ� Scarborough, has received the 91�Թ� Global Educator Award.

“I am deeply humbled and honored to be receiving this inaugural award,” said Ezezika, who teaches at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Health & Society at 91�Թ� Scarborough and is cross-appointed at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. “Intercultural fluency is a critical 21st century skill and I’m grateful to the many students at the university who continue to inspire me to create the conditions for a global learning environment in every course I teach.”

Professor Joe Wong, vice-provost and associate vice-president, international student experience, is chair of the 91�Թ� Global Educator Award. He said the committee was impressed with Ezezika's commitment to creating “a truly global learning environment” for his students.

“His approach to teaching and learning reflects a diversity of perspectives and invites engagement from all students,” Wong said. “Professor Ezezika is committed to creating a truly inclusive learning experience, reflecting 91�Թ�’s global diversity among our students, staff and faculty, as well as in the city of Toronto.”

Ezezika receives an award of $3,000 and will be honoured at the Excellence in Teaching reception this fall.
