Nine engineering professors and alumni inducted into the Canadian Academy of Engineering
Through his research at Holland Bloorview and 91³Ô¹Ï, Professor Tom Chau has developed assistive technologies that give children and youth with severe physical limitations the ability to communicate independently.
Chau, of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering's Institute of Biomaterials & Biomedical Engineering, created the award-winning Virtual Music Instrument, which allows people with disabilities to express themselves through music, and he has pioneered optical brain-computer interfaces which allow nonverbal individuals to communicate through thought alone.
Chau is one of nine members of 91³Ô¹Ï's engineering community inducted as fellows of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) today.
