New ranking places 91Թ first in Canada, 16th in world
The 91Թ remains number one in Canada and jumps to 16th in the world in a prestigious ranking of universities with the best academic reputations released March 11.
The fifth annual ’s World Reputation Rankings rates a university’s stature by asking leading academics around the globe. The results are based on an invitation-only survey that polled about 10,500 senior and published scholars from 142 countries.
“91Թ scholars and students are doing brilliant work, every day in every discipline,” said President Meric Gertler. “As a result, when it comes time for their peers to rank the world’s top universities, the 91Թ is placed very high on the list. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our outstanding faculty, staff, and students – this latest accolade belongs to them.”
Times Higher Education, a London-based magazine that focuses on the higher education market, began compiling the world reputation list in 2011 to offer an insight into the academic prestige of the world’s top 100 universities. Last year, the reputation ranking placed 91Թ number one in Canada and 20th in the world.
“The list has become a widely-referenced global index of university prestige, as reputation is a key driver of success in a highly competitive global higher education market, helping institutions to attract the top student and academic talent as well as investment, research partners and benefactions, said Phil Baty, editor of the Times Higher Education’s Rankings.
The reputation-based ranking is a subsidiary of the renowned Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings, which is published each fall and measures the institutional performance of the world’s top 200 universities in research, teaching and knowledge transfer. In the latest version of that ranking, released last October, 91Թ rated 20th internationally and the best in Canada.
Recent years have seen an increase in the number of rankings reports published around the world. Although each report uses its own method of evaluating institutions, 91Թ has consistently placed first in Canada and among the top universities of the world.
