Assistant Professor Michael Hutchison receives Connaught Innovation Award

Michael Hutchison, an assistant professor at the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education, has received a Connaught Innovation Award for RHEA, a mobile rehabilitation tool for people suffering from concussion.

Hutchison’s research and clinical experience have shown that starting active rehabilitation early following concussion is better than resting – and the tool makes that easier.

“The Connaught Innovation Award is an exciting milestone for RHEA,” says Hutchison, who is director of the concussion program at the David L. MacIntosh Sport Medicine Clinic. “Everyone involved in the project is very excited by this entrepreneurial opportunity that fills an important gap in the rehabilitation of individuals with concussion and gives us a platform for research to inform future intervention options.

“With the aid of this award, we will begin the roll out of the app, while continuing rigorous scientific research around user experience, usability and effectiveness.”
